The Weekly Variety
A tearjerker, a hair product for curly hair, and how to dress for middle school gym class
I do not listen to or leave voicemails. If you call me and I don’t answer, just text me. I do, however, have a few voicemails saved on my phone and this song is the reason why. Grab your Kleenex before you give this song a listen—Checking In by Lee Brice and For King and Country. You don’t need my commentary, just listen.
Now that you’re sitting in a puddle of tears, we’ll segue to a product for curly hair, which is the most natural transition. It seems like I’ve tried everything under the sun to tame my frizz and refresh my curls. I’ve decided less is more. Pacifica Pineapple Swirl Curl Defining Cream is the only product I put on my hair, other than shampoo and conditioner a few times a week. Whether my hair is wet or dry, this is what my hair needs. It’s not heavy or crunchy. It doesn’t leave a residue, even after using it on dry hair for two or three days. It really does smooth out the wild, frizzy hair that hovers like a less than angelic halo on top my head. It smells good and leaves my hair soft and naturally flowing. I fully expect at any moment this product will suddenly not work anymore because my hair has a mind of its own, but until then Pacifica is my ride or die.

If you want to look like you are in middle school gym class or, depending on your age, look like you are the middle school gym class teacher, I recommend this two piece outfit. I imagine it’s a dupe for something expensive, so just know what you see in the picture is not what you get in the mail, especially in the length of the shorts. My oldest, Lily, ordered a small but the top and bottom were so huge I was able to try it on too. As soon as I saw the shorts fresh out of the package, I commented that they belonged in the locker room in a middle school gym. They brought back memories of the nasty, old, dark locker room of my middle school days. Lily tried the outfit on and sure enough she looked like she was dressed out for PE. I tried it on too and all I needed was a whistle, tall tube socks, a sweatband on my forehead, and white non-marking shoes and I would have completed the proper attire for a stereotypical gym teacher. Maybe another color would have been less gym-y (Lily ordered navy), but I’m not sure the color matters when you are wearing polyester shorts with a 12 inch inseam. The top was cute though, and I do apologize that we did not take pictures. I also apologize if you own this outfit. You pull it off way better than Lily and I do, promise.
