When I published my last Weekly Variety, Brent was excited to see he had a shoutout, but quickly realized the shoutout was short and wasn’t really highlighting all of the wonderful attributes he has.
So—
To the man who comments on social media only once a year to say “THAT’S TODAY?!” on my post celebrating our wedding anniversary—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
To the man who keeps his clothes in a “wear again basket” because, obviously, he will definitely wear four pairs of pajama pants, five sweatshirts, six t-shirts, two button down shirts, and one pair of dress pants again in one week, and rest assured this is not an “I don’t feel like putting my clothes where they belong” situation—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
To the man who gets in the bed at night and immediately falls asleep and stays asleep throughout the entire night, then comes downstairs in the morning to his wife who slept like there’s a two week old in the house again and says to her, “How’d you sleep last night?”—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
To the man who coined the phrase “Chairenting” and often finds ways to be a parent without leaving his chair (aka yell through the house to handle whatever needs handling) but also not effectively handle what needs to be handled because he needs to GET UP and see what the problem is—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
To the man who walks through every closed door in our house like Kramer through Jerry’s apartment door—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
To the man who can’t find a thing in this house without asking me a million questions, then finally asks me to just come find it for him, and I find it precisely where I said the thing would be—
HERE IS YOUR SHOUT OUT
But…..
To the man who has fresh coffee brewed for me every afternoon when I get home from school, and will even brew caffeinated for himself then brew decaf for me (see above for my poor sleeping abilities) so we can both have fresh afternoon coffee together—
here is your shout out
To the man who is the calm to my chaos and keeps me grounded when my head is spinning out of control—
here is your shout out
To the man who was always a husband in MASH and the imagined driver of the minivan full of kids in LIFE, but is now the real-life husband and the flusher of the black tank on the camper—
here is your shout out
To the man who makes me laugh more than anyone else (other than my mom) and also makes a safe space for me to be raging mad or full of grief—
here is your shout out
To the man who lets me go to bed before the kids most nights because I am so tired I can't form coherent words—
here is your shout out
To the man who always has time for his children to pass the volleyball, throw the football, and bake a big mess in the kitchen with utmost patience—
here is your shout out
To the man who can handle middle school math at 9:30 pm—
here is your shout out. high school math is TBD.
To the man who takes Bruce (the dog) out in the pouring rain and gets soaked while waiting for him to poop just so the rest of us can stay dry—
here is your shout out
To the man who is quick to forgive and slow to become angry—
here is your shout out
To the man I’ve loved for 22 ish years, who is an imperfect picture of Christ’s graceful, merciful, gentle, and unconditional love for me—
here is your shout out
To the man who deserves ALL the shout outs for putting up with me—
I love you.
AND ONE FINAL SHOUT OUT
To the man critiquing the pictures I chose for this post—
HERE IS THE ONE FROM GRINNELL LAKE
Brent is the bomb!! And you are most eloquent with words.
